Becoming an emotionally focused therapist and supervisor is the highlight of my professional career. That process truly trained me to be an exceptional marriage therapist. The training and supervision process is designed to help you move from a cognitive understanding of the model to an experiential and skilled emotionally focused therapist. Once I began seeing the powerful impact EFT had with the couples I worked with, I became interested in helping other therapists learn this model.Emotionally focused therapy can be a difficult model to learn. Having a supportive supervisor makes all the difference. Together, we review your cases, watch recordings of your sessions, and work through the nuances of the model. I also offer “bug in the ear” supervision, where I guide you while you work with your couple in real-time.
The process of becoming an emotionally focused therapist takes several years. We can begin supervision after you have taken a 4-day externship offered by one of ICEEFT’s certified trainers. I then strongly recommend you take the Advanced Core Skills, which is offered over the course of a year. A minimum of 8 hours of individual supervision is necessary for certification. Most therapists seek more than that. Together we will work to get two tapes ready for review by one of ICEEFT’s trainers. You will submit a clip from your work with a couple in Stage I and a couple in Stage 2.
